The team and I flew back into Auckland on the Wednesday night and was up early Thursday morning for a team press conference and then headed off to mish for one last wake up session before the weekend in the gym. Love lifting tin in that place! Then finally headed off to the track in the avo to support some buddy's who were racing cruiser and check out the track for the first time as there was some big questions and speculations raised over the standard and tightness off the track.
I would love to vent some thoughts on that matter but its over and done with and at the end of the day, everyone was equally having to ride what was put in front of us so that was a plus I guess.
Practise came around Friday night and within 3 laps had jumped and ticked off everything out there which has been my main goal heading to these last few races is to get things ticked off as fast as possible so I can get comfortable out there as soon as poss and ride on the limits! the only thing I had to get sorted was the gate as we didn't get any due to the ramp and gate not being finished or ready to drop.
Saturday morning was just about getting the body warmed up and punch out some gates before time trials Saturday avo.
Time trials came and went and put down a comfortable lap with a few mistakes here and there but kept everything stock as poss.
Racing came around Sunday and qualified out of motos with ease. we then had a 4 hour break and was straight into elimination rounds of 1/8ths which was a different story all together. Got an ok gate and managed to get to the bottom of the hill first but being out in lane 4 I didn't get across enough into the first turn and got the nudge from underneath and went down coming out of the first turn....my day over!!I was devastated to say the least. It felt like I was tracking and going ok and things were pulling together like I had planned only to be slammed back to reality I guess. I sulked for a couple of hours and most of the big names either went down or got blown to pieces in the first turn as well which made it a little bit easier to swallow but still didn't stop the disappointment and anger feeling creep in...
Its been just over a week now and I'm starting to get back into it after taking a week off to wind down and headed over to Ruapehu for some much needed snowboarding with krew and got back out on the golf coarse. I've evaluated everything as far as prep went for a big race and found a lot of areas that I need to pick up on so those areas will be my main focus moving forward and am amping for what next season has to offer!! Ready to pump some more hard yards and continue chasing my dream......
Also I want to say a big thank you for all the support of my family and friends for soming up to support me. Also a big thank you to my sponsors, without yu guys a lot of this wouldn't have been possible! Crupi bicycles, Taranaki elite athlete foundation, Tsb bank, Bikenz and all the staff and people involved with helping on my journey.
time to go shred the local trails...over and out
