Since my last update I’ve returned home back to New Zealand and taken a few weeks off to rest up, catch up with family and friends and hit the mountain slopes. I then have since returned back to full duties (well semi full) up in Cambridge to get ready for the last 2 rounds of the world cup series. After regular visits to the physio down in New Plymouth and then catching up with the medical staff in Cambridge, it was decided to get X-rays and scans to see how bad or how good these little niggling injuries were on my knees, shoulder and tailbone. All was given the all clear with the verdict being a very large rehab program to be undertaken every second day and certain exercises to be done pre and post training sessions. Already with thee exercises its all showing signs of strengthening back up and starting to get back into working order with only 2 weeks.
Once confirmation was made that I was in ok condition and my niggles were fixable, training carried on as per normal. Unfortunately for my New Zealand team mate Kurt Picard his crash as the world champs was worse than first predicted and he is to get under the knife next week (all the best with the recovery buddy). As a result I am travelling in his place now to Argentina and like originally planned, into Chula Vista for the final round of the world cup series. We all fly out tonight to USA where we will have a 3 day layover in Miami and then down to Argentina to get in for the race. We then head out to the newly built World class facility in USA of Rockhill, South Carolina to train for 2 weeks in the build up to the Chula Vista, California.
My build up for this race hasn’t been as good as I usually would have liked to due to injuries and time off the bike to relax, but it’s going to be a good test moving forward to see how I can handle this type of build up physically and mentally to an even bigger race such as world champs or the Olympics in a few years.
I'm also pumped to get on board a new Royalty whip equipped with BOX Components goodness keeping my ride stiff and fast. what do you guys think?
All for now, will try and keep this updated over the next 4 weeks of travelling as it comes in. Time to get on a bird.
