Weekend 1 we headed out on an early flight o Albuquerque, New Mexico for my first stop on the ABA circuit. Super high altitude and hot weather made it damn hard to breathe and race in. Well the racing part was ok but once you had crossed the line it felt like someone had thrown some dry sand down my throat. Day 1 and 2, I cruised through motos and quarters. Come semis day 1 I managed to slide out in the last turn ending my day of making the main. Day 2 I came out strong and sat in 4th place around the whole track till the last turn where I was caught on the outside of 3rd place opening the door enough for 5th place to blast me off the last turn ending my day there. We did the 15 hour drive back to California for a few days before i got back on another flight to Nashville, Tennessee.
Track was the smoothest I’ve ever ridden with a super long first straight meaning that you could use the horse to get out and hit some top end taping out speed wise going into the first turn. First moto on day 1 I managed to hit the deck once again going into the first turn sitting behind Picard as we all blew up leaving 2 riders still upright. I cruised through the next few rounds and bowing out in the quarter finals. One again sitting in fourth and was bombed last turn ending day 1 there for me. After having one of those fun showers with grazes as all you bmxers will know very well, Day 2 rolled around. Once again i cruised through motos with a couple of wins and a third. Quarter finals I punched out strong almost getting the hole shot and got stuck on the outside in turn one. Unfortunately that was enough to open the door enough for a behind rider to once again come under me and hitting the deck for the 4th time in 2 weeks leaving me to cheer on the team mates from the sidelines.
I then headed back to California with a whole lot of stuff to work on these next few weeks leading into Berlin. At this level of racing you can’t afford to leave little gaps and openings so the focus will be covering lines down straights and cornering lines. The whole high performance team will be meeting in Berlin for this world cup campaign and am super excited to get out there for my first world cup hit out of the season with missing the last 2. The last time I was in Germany back in 2004 (am showing my age now) I was on the high performance team and we all almost got sent home.... enough said haha. Berlins first straight is super wide open and fast as well as being a decent size as it’s the track they used for the Red bull Revolution. We will be spending 2 weeks on the track beforehand so ill keep you all posted and up to date when it happens through my social media and over on here. All for now shredders. Go get some!
