Since the last update, a few races have gone by. Firstly a local superclass round in Te Awamutu which I took the win at and a the worlds selection race up in Auckland off the SX hill. It's always fun dropping in from the big hill so getting back up on it made for a pretty fun weekend racing taking the win on day 1 and after some interesting racing on day 2, I took 2 wins out of 3 races and getting DNF in the other :-p.
Training has been moving forward very slow still managing and trying to get on top of this knee which is proving to test my patience and mental aspect of the sport. After thinking it was on track and starting to improve back into full training mode, this weekends racing in Australia has dropped it to an all time low struggling to get through the weekend with it buckling and giving way on me out of the gate, landing jumps and causing some big near wrecks out on the track. A meeting is scheduled with the doctor this week to see what the next step is moving forward and fingers crossed these tendons can heal faster or at least stay the same for a while than what they already are.
The weekends racing in Aussie was tough with the temperature being between 35-40 degrees both days of racing and with a super long first straight with a lot of pedalling made for a though weekend on the job. The cloud of cramps where in the back of all the rides minds so a big dose of magnesium ensured the cramps stayed away. The weekends racing didn't turn out the way I was expecting with crashing out both days. After cruising through qualifying with some wins and on through quarters, staying upright for me proved hard with washing out and also being taken out from from behind going down in turns both in qualifying positions. On top of that, gritting the teeth and pain killers for this knee made gates and jump backsides towards the business end of the day near impossible with it letting go and buckling. Weekend over!
The next step is to keep working on getting this knee ready for the international season which kicks off in Manchester, England in 8 weeks and hopefully handle the training load moving forward whilst making steps in the right direction.
I am near an end of this years season planning so once that is confirmed I'll update you all as it comes in. A few other things are in the pipeline which I will announce over the next 3-4 weeks which I'm super excited about so keep your eyes peeled. I'll be continuing my regular coaching in the Waikato and also heading back down to Christchurch this weekend running the final pre national champs coaching camp with Victoria hill #71 so if you're around, pop down and sign up or come along and check it out. I'll also be running a coaching clinic over the weekend of the 28th of February and 1st of March in Rotorua. The flyer will be out on my facebook page soon so keep your eyes peeled for that also.
It's only 6 weeks till national champs so for all you New Zealanders, I hope your all on the training grind to chase those goals! All for now.....#nine4nine
