2015 kicked off with a quick flight over to Australia for rounds one and two of the Australian Probikx series along with UCI rounds one and two. Practise came and went with racing kicking off at 4pm Friday afternoon cruising through motos, quarters and semis. I had a good gate in the main going into turn one almost holeshotting but getting stuck on the outside of the famous Nerang first turn getting held up going from second to fourth where I crossed the line in.
Day 2 came around and I was hungry to get on the podium. Once again cruising through qualifying with firsts leading into quarters. I got an ok start but I overcooked the first jump a little pulling me back into the pack and getting stuck under the first turn causing myself to carry zero speed into the pro straight getting passed down the straight not qualifying through to semis.
Day 3 was a similar story to day 2 with bowing out in quarters due to making a mistake going into the first turn and getting stuck on the outside this time and making some bad decisions around the track ending my weekend there.
You could say this weekend wasn’t the best start to 2015 along with probably my worst weekend of racing since I came back to the sport. BUT in saying that, 2015 is definitely going to get better and I’m looking forward to my next hit out to redeem myself.
Post Nerang seen a rest day with icing excess swelling from the weekend and typical tropical weather of rain. Wednesday came around and another race but up in Brisbane at the Sleemans facility. As the track has been changed since I last rode it, we all were out there hucking our way around. Interesting new design to say the least but once its fully hard and run in it will be fast, wide open and big! Racing came around and I cruised through motos. Come final my gate was average but I still managed to pull into 3rd place. The next 2 days, once again seen this #olddog stuck to the couch with ice packs trying to minimise the swelling. I chose to stay on after this race to get some more time on the Sleemans track but the rain took over and unfortunately I couldn’t get back on to ride.
What’s next? The next few months are loading up fast with races, coaching, training, organising, study and travelling. The main priority is to get my knee back on track so I can start training full steam ahead again. Although I have changed my training around, I’m hanging out to throw some tin around in the gym again.
January sees the world’s selection race in Auckland. February is rounds three and four of the Australian Probikx series and UCI rounds 3 and 4 in Melbourne, coaching clinics in Christchurch, starting back at university, continuing on with training and rehabbing and kicking off my weekly coaching once again leading into national titles.
I’ll also be finalising a few other plan, ideas and news in the pipeline so stay tuned and ill keep ya posted as it comes in. Time to get on a plane.
