HISTORY
BMX is and has been a big part of my life over the past 14 years. During this time I have been a part of club, regional, national and high performance programs along with training under some great coaches experiencing what works well and what does not work well from a coaching perspective. Over this time I have evolved and obtained coaching knowledge, theories, perspectives, experience and views of to what approach best fits individuals need within BMX. Just like any sport, coaching is more than just training and the physical side of things. I have learnt that there is far more to BMX than just on the bike physical training. Over my time in the sport I have coached at the majority of the levels within the sport. Levels of beginner, intermediate, advanced, club, provincial and national levels. During this time I have seen success not as a result, rather an outcome and process. The coaching style I use helps grow hard working, responsible, moralistic, self confident, attitudes and fundamentals needed to achieve their goals and ambitions in the sport of BMX and life.
WHAT I CAN OFFER?
Obviously not every rider is the same so what one rider may need, is different to another. Seeing these weaknesses or areas to work in is what is focused on whether it is a beginner or an international rider. At a beginner, I can teach the fundamentals of the sport right through to the advanced. Aspects of work coaching range from: - Gate techniques - Manueling - Jumping - Cornering - Race lines - Pack ridding - Race skills under pressure - Mental preparation - Sprint training - Gym training - Testing - Stretching - Routines - Warm ups - Weaknesses/work ons - Plyometric training Aspects all depend on the level/ability and needs of the rider. HOW IT WORKS As I am based in Cambridge, New Zealand from October through to May and overseas racing from May to September, there are different options to what I can offer. See below for details: WHEN IN NEW ZEALAND: ONE ON ONE (WAIKATO BASED)– 1 hour coaching sessions working on skills and weaknesses (note: first session 1.5 hours) GROUP COACHING (WAIKATO BASED) – Maximum 5 riders per group. REFERENCES Dave Burnett, Southland BMX Club "We had Matt come to our club for a weekend training camp November 2014. The weather was not so flash on the first day but Matt had the ability to change his plans and turn what could of been a wasted day in a very worth while day. The second day was done at the track. All riders got a lot out of the weekend and they found Matt very easy to relate too.We are very keen to get Matt back again.
